There are countless archiving applications to be found on the Internet. Even if WinRAR is not free, for some reason, you can use its full capabilities for as long as you want, so you will never find yourself without a tool for compressing your files. If you want the same efficiency, but without any nag screens, B1 Free Archiver will meet all your demands. Its design is simpler than other similar applications, but its archiving capabilities are quite effective.
As the name clearly points out, the software is free. You will not encounter any restrictions, hidden fees or nag screens. When you are done with the standard installation procedure, you can run the program right away and use for as long as you want. It works on all Windows versions, as well as Mac, Linux and Android platforms.
The first thing you will notice is the fact that B1 Free Archiver provides a modern and elegant user interface. You can navigate through your files and folders, just like on a standard explorer window and use the available options, located on the toolbar, to create, open or unpack archives. Some options will become available only after you select certain files. For example, if you want to create an archive, you must select the files which you want to compress. Alternatively, you can drag and drop your files, over the interface, to start compressing.
Archives are configured on a small window. Besides selecting an output path and format, you may split the archive into multiple bits, of predefined sizes and choose a compression mode. The software lets you create an archive, in its native format (B1) or a ZIP archive. In terms of file associations, B1 Free Archiver works with ZIP, RAR and 7z archives. This means that you can use it to extract files from these popular formats.
Once installed, B1 Free Archiver will add new options in the Windows Explorer context menu, allowing you to unpack archives, without launching the program. The options are not many and they are quite simple. If you select one or more files, you will find a single option, for creating an archive. If you select an archive, you will find options for unpacking in the current location, in a custom location or in a new folder.
Pros: B1 Free Archiver’s interface is modern and elegant. It provides strictly what you need to create or unpack archives and it does not slow you down with any advanced options. The application works fast, it supports other popular archive formats and you will definitely appreciate the fact that it is absolutely free.
Cons: You may create archives only in B1 and ZIP format. Also, the supported archives are not many, but this is only a temporary drawback.
If B1 Free Archiver should be described only with two words, they would be simplicity and efficiency. It lets you work with archives as fast and comfortably as possible.
Launched in 2011, B1 Free Archiver stays the most friendly and simple software to open and create archives. B1 supports most common formats as well as its own (.b1, .zip, .rar, .7z), and works on all popular platforms – Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. B1 Free Archiver is 100% free for both personal and commercial use.
